Kopper King Cabin
Kopper King Cabin - The first two pictures show two view of the Kopper
King Cabin. It was in good shape and well-stocked when I visited.
Lower Mine - The lower mine is just a few yards up the canyon from the
cabin. The top of the vertical shaft is shown in these pictures. The best I
can say is that it is real deep. How deep? I don't know for sure.
Outhouse - Three views of the outhouse. It has not deteriorated since I
first saw it in the mid 1990s.
Upper Mine - The upper mine is located about a mile away from the cabin.
First you hike about a half mile up the main canyon and then another half
mile up one of the side canyons to the north. It's location is clearly shown
on the topographical maps of the area.
The last four pictures show views of the area. One group of yucca was
found at the base of the side canyon leading to the upper mine. The other
pictures were taken up on the ridge above the mine.

Opal Springs
These pictures of Opal Springs were taken from the ridge just north of the
Kopper King Cabin. Opal Springs is a forty acre privately held property
within the Argus Wilderness Area. I drove up the road to it by accident and
stopped when I came to an entrance to the site. Although there were no signs
warning against trespassing, it was unclear whether passing through the area
was permitted or not.
Work Yard - Look closely and you will see a person getting out of the
truck.
Junk Yard - This must be where all the old and worn out stuff goes.
Roads - This view shows the roads leading up to the property.
House - Cute little yellow house and some vehicles.
Perspective View - Looking north... notice the limestone quarry to the
north. The Panamint Crater is near this location.

Opal Mine
The opal mine is sort of the hub of this area. It is clearly marked on most
maps of the area and the road leading to the Kopper King Cabin and the
canyons to the south by this site. At one time there was lots of debri at
this site from buildings that had been knocked over, but that mess has been
removed (or maybe just buried). That's Telescope Peak behind the tractor, by
the way.

Canyons to the South
Except for the picture of the abandoned Trailer, these pictures were taken
a canyon south of the Kopper King Canyon. If you followed this canyon all
the way up and over the ridgeline of the Argus Range you would arrive at the
site of Milspaugh (and you'd be trespassing big time, btw). The remains of
the wooden shack are right on the boundary between the Argus Wilderness Area
and the adjacent military base. The sign has no words on it, but it
corresponds approximately with the boundary on the topographic maps of the
area (except that the cabin is shown to be within the boundary on the
maps... maybe they just placed the sign to allow access to the shack... who
knows?).
Abandoned Trailer - An abandoned trailer located near a spring a couple
canyons south of the Kopper King Cabin. The spring above the cabin has more palm
trees.
The last picture shows a collapsed structure about a mile down the canyon
from the shack pictured in the first three photos.
